  Marin Homes

Marin County lies just across the Golden Gate Bridge, north of San Francisco. It extends to the north to Sonoma County and encompasses some of the most desirable living areas in the Bay Area. From the bustling, bayside waterfront city of Sausalito, often compared to Portofino, and just around the corner from the Golden Gate Bridge, north and west through many small towns that comprise Marin County, the choices for lifestyle are varied and very desirable.

The settlement of Marin County began in the 1800s, and developed as a place of summer homes, unitl the 1906 earthquake of San Francisco and the completion of the Golden Gate Bridge brought more and more people to live in the beauty of Marin. So many of the small towns have homes with history from Mill Valley, nestled snugly along the slopes of Mt. Tamalpais, the historic downtown of Larkspur, Kentfield, Ross and San Anselmo in lovely Ross Valley, to San Rafael and northern Marin.

Part of the ambience of living in Marin is the topography, with hillside homes and flatter areas to live in, plus the generous open space including Mount Tamalpais and Mount Baldy, and in all parts of the county. The open spaces provide wonderful hiking areas for adults and children. Moreover all these towns near Mt. Tamalpais have access trails to the Park, a real boon to residents. San Rafael is a small city, with most of the conveniences of larger one. Further north, where there are larger newer housing tracts, the terrain is flat, though the hills and open country lie just beyond the nearby hills. When you visit a home site and like what you see, take care to talk with an agent, or fill out the form, as Marin housing is anything but easy to land-- homes go quickly in such a lovely place.

For more information on local events and news, you might want to visit the websites of some of the local publications: Marin Magazine, Pacific Sun, and The Ark Newspaper.
